SPOT

El Yaque, originally a fishing village on Isla Margarita, an island off the coast of mainland Venezuela, has become a popular wind & kitesurfing destination since long time. here, you will enjoy not only virtually inexhaustible wind potencial, but also the magic of the Caribbean.

The spot is over 1 Km long. The geografically advantageus lacation of Isla Margarita and an airstream created between this island and the neighbouring isla explain the reliability and strength of the wind. Add the thermal conditions to the picture and you know why all the windsurfers you meet in El Yaque have a big grin on their faces.

Wind surfing:

A 300m-long shallow area offers windsurfing beginners and intermediates optimum conditions. An idealspot for safely practising beach and water starts and gybing. All advanced windsurfers and freestyle acrobats will certanly have their fun here and will have the best freestyle equipment available to them.

El Yaque has recently become the venue for a number of major windsurfing contest, which are regulary attended by the world´s best windsurfers. The really excelent freestyle and, for that matter, wave-riding levels thus do not come as a particular surprise. Quite a number of windsurfers have matured to World Cup level here, and the young Margaritenos are only waiting for chance. Some of you might learn a few additional windsurfing freestyle tricks and skills from them.

Kitesurfing:

In El Yaque, you will find a spot that probably boaststhe highest number of wind days in the world. The wind blows with a force of 3-5 bft in the morning; after midday, thermal conditions help intensify the trade wind to a force of approximately 4-7 bft. To ensure kitesurfers and windsurfers safety, the spot is divided into various zones.

Advanced kitesurfers (level 5) can launch and land upwind the windsurfing zone all day. Here, you will also find an extended sand bank, which we use for our initial instruction sessions. Subsequent classes start either on Kite Beach or Pelican Beach, which is situated about 2 kilometres upwind from El Yaque.

For advanced kitesurfers, there are kitesurfing excursions to Isla Coche and Isla Cubagua. On Coche, 8 Km off El Yaque to the south, the wind is offshore, giving us absolutely flat water. A fishing boat is available if you find you have trouble to sail upwind after all.The island of Cubagua is a nature reserve with perfect kitesurfing conditions. This island, which is home to four fishing families today and was one of the first settlements in South America, offers us the certainty that the kitesurfers arriving there by boat in the morning are the only ones in this dream spot.

Windsurfers, Kitesurfers, non-surfers- they all gather in the numerous beach bars after sunset to enjoy one of the delicious fruit cocktails served there and chat about the varied events of the day, exchange all the things they´ve been up to that day and share pleasurable expectations of the next day.
